ROAR! beginings Bear.HIDE! all began with a phone call between Tim + Jim from Red/on/white one afternoon. We were after a gimmick and Tim's ingenious idea of doing a split cassette release meant that we could have a lot of fun and get our music out there with another band! Initially the project was put on hold as James went overseas for a little while but Tim was one busy little beaver in the meantime - by the time James was back Quiet the Few were keen to get in on the action. Various bands/groups followed and before long it looked like we could make a go of the idea as more of an org. than a one-off project. The first Bear.HIDE! session, HIDE!01, was recorded on the 28th of October @ "The Cave" (an oh so clever name for Tom's bedroom) with the release scheduled for the 17th of November @ Gertrudes Bandroom. As DIY as the whole process was it actually happened - something that surprised us to be honest... what bear.HIDE! is all about Although the initial idea started as a gimmick, we've decided to make this about creating a community where there's currently a void (particularly) in the Indie scene here in Melbourne. To be fair, it's not because everyone are being nasty pasties - this has come from seeing what is going on in the punk and hardcore scenes: bands helping each other out. This initiative will create relationships between bands, create gigs and just plain spread the love. Not to mention the ever so wonderful fun it is to do the recordings themselves! Basically: we figure having two bands sell split releases will mean that their respective fans will get to hear a band they wouldn't have otherwise! It helps bands become known and liked. We like that :) how it all works Bear.HIDE! is all about live music. We create small session nights with a handful of crowd members and sorround the band/artist with a mess of microphones and digital recording gear. At the end of the process we end up with a digital multitrack recording and begin the mixdown process - a couple of weeks later: HIDE!0X is ready to be put to tape. Although the we want the live stuff to be our focus, we're already planning to do some releases of pre-recorded material - particularly for non-melbourne groups. If you think it'd be a good option just get on to us! |
